In this workshop we will show you how to effectively monitor IT infrastructures with the Linuxfabrik Monitoring Plugins. Based on best practices we will show you which plugins to use in which situations, what they can do and how to interpret the output. This course is for everyone who wants to get more out of their monitoring with Icinga, Nagios and other compatible systems.
The following topics may be covered as part of the training:
Markus Frei, Linuxfabrik
The course is charged on a time and material basis and per participant as part of your Service Contract. The more experience you have, the cheaper, shorter and more dynamic the course will be.
For each additional participant on your team, you will receive a discount on the total price:
Recommended duration: 16 hours
This course is ideal if you want to run your monitoring system with up-to-date and consistent plugins according to the latest state of the art.
The plugins are fast, tried and tested in hard data center environments and consume as little system resources as possible. They report the same metrics uniformly and consistently on all platforms (e.g. always "used" instead of a mixture of "used" and "free"). Automatic detection and auto-discovery mechanisms are built in where possible. With reasonable defaults, the plugins trigger WARNs and CRITs only when absolutely necessary. They also provide troubleshooting information. Dependencies on third-party system libraries are avoided as much as possible.
Basic knowledge of datacenter infrastructure is helpful, as well as command line skills, basic knowledge of the operating system and the applications being monitored (e.g. Apache). Knowledge of Icinga or Nagios is not required for this course as the plugins can be used independently.
If plugin development is part of the course, Python skills are required. Knowledge of Icinga and Grafana is helpful if the integration with Icinga Director and Grafana is to be demonstrated as part of the plugin development.
